Meet Haven

For as long as I can remember, childbirth has fascinated me. My own mom gave birth to my younger sister at home, and that sparked in me an interest that I’ve never been able to shake. For most of my young adulthood, my career path careened and wandered, eventually leading me to nursing school. I had every intention of becoming a labor and delivery nurse (I actually cried in every single birth I saw during my clinicals, lol), but ended up in emergency medicine instead. I loved it, I really did—and I thought I’d stay there for a while, but then I got pregnant, and everything changed.

In my own pregnancy journey, I received care that left me feeling voiceless and ignored by my healthcare provider. As a nurse, I was frustrated with the care I was receiving in a system that I not only understood but perpetuated. As an expecting mother, I was terrified to give birth in a place and situation that I felt unheard by and that, ultimately, I didn’t trust.

After a lot of research and conversation, my husband and I decided together to seek the remainder of our prenatal care elsewhere, and it was the best decision for our family. I found a team that made me feel seen, heard, and empowered for birth. It changed everything for me, for my birth, and for my family.

We had an incredible, peaceful home birth–a story that, like most people who’ve had a life-changing experience, I love to share with others. But even though the birth was amazing, I had a really challenging postpartum journey, and I was and still am absolutely floored by how unprepared I was for the realities of that. There was so much I didn’t know that, had I been educated, could’ve changed everything about that chapter of my life, too.

It was this experience that reignited my passion for childbirth and sent me down this path to become an educator. I love to learn about birth and postpartum and love to teach others about it. I want you and your partner to know your options and to help you figure out what you want and what’s best for your family.

I want you to feel supported, seen, and heard by your care providers and to give you the tools you need to advocate for your autonomy. I want to give you and your partner knowledge and resources that will help you thrive as you navigate the incredible, life-changing journey of becoming a parent.
